About Us

Summerview Stud is a budding young farm with a very hands-on personal touch and is owned by Colleen, Gary and Nastasha de Klerk.  The boutique stud farm is a tranquil beautiful property nestled in quiet lane in the middle of Summerveld, the home to KZN’s bustling horse racing training centre that houses almost 2000 horses when the Champion Season, from March to August, is in full swing. 

Our mares stand at Blue Sky Thoroughbreds, one of the bigger nurseries in the Midlands and after weaning, the babies are brought home to be prepped for the forthcoming sales. 

Gary has been involved in owning racehorses for the past 30 years, whilst the “horse bug” bit Colleen as a child and she rode competitively from then, and still continues to ride today.

Our most successfully bred horse to date is the 12-time winner, Caribbean Bay, a daughter of Mullins Bay and Speedy Guest.

Having started with just three mares, we now have a total of 15 mares.  We continue to improve on our broodmare band and our aim is to keep it small with a small band of choicely-bred mares and look forward each year to exciting stock coming through.

Our goal is to produce top quality yearlings to present at the sales each year.

Our mission is to provide the yearlings with a good and solid foundation to prepare them for their racing careers.
